Ok, I was trying to sum up why Obama selecting Rick Warren to do the invocation was a piss-poor political move and Rachel Maddow did it for me a couple weeks ago!
If we really HAVE to do an invocation (we don't), there is no reason that it needs to be this jerkwad.

When the authors of the Constitution wrote the words that the president would say at his inauration, they did NOT include the phrase "so help me God." It is unclear which President started this tradition. But it is clear that our founding fathers did not find it necessary to ask for Gods help while residing over the presidency.
That's true. I don't know which President started it either, but what a jerk! We've already talked about this but you don't have to be sworn in on a bible either. Seeping Christianity. Blech.
